Robert Menzie, u say 18 bikes in month of may were stopped by rcmp. do u know who they were and what kind of bike they owner. i was stopped may 2/2012.
thank u kirk. See u at toy run. woudn’t miss it for the world. The police didn’t give me electro stimulation, they understood me clearly. LOL
Hi Kirk
The comment you are replying to was posted in June 2011, almost one year ago. I don’t think we will have any problems with the RCMP on the day of the 2012 event. They have been very good to work with both last year, and this year.
The Kinsmen of Campbell River just did their first toy run and dance on June 11th. Never had a problem with anyone including the RCMP. Next year it will be bigger and better and I hope Nanaimo does the same. If you need help doing whatwever please feel free to contact me. I been riding for 35 years.
the show and shine is geared mostly for Harleys ,what about foreign and japanese bike classes?,Harleys are a small percentage of all bikes on the road, looks like this event is put on by Harley owners, not impressed.
Mike – the foreign and Japanese bikes would fit into just about all of the Show & Shine classes except for the Sportster Class. The event is open to all makes of bikes and we hope that there is representation from all of them.
I’d like to extend a sincere wish for a successful event for all those that have put in their hard work for a good cause. Lets hope for good weather, good publicity, good donations, and most of all good clean fun.
The First Annual Nanaimo Toy Run will be taking place on July 2, 2011. We believe that the negative publicity that has appeared on A Channel and on a few websites does not reflect the attitude of the majority of riders, or of the general public.
We are sorry to hear that you will not be attending the First Annual Nanaimo Toy Run. The Nanaimo Toy Run’s mandate is firstly to support the under privileged children and the family core in Nanaimo, and is also a fun event for the Vancouver Island Motorcycle Community. It is unfortunate that you have decided to boycott our First Annual Event, and hope that you and your colleagues will reconsider your decision.
As you are probably aware, the RCMP has been in full support of the Port Alberni Toy Run for quite a few years. We expect the RCMP treat our event no differently. We have had several meetings with them, and have had little negative feedback from them. We have also had quite a few meetings with Nanaimo Parks and Recreation as we will be using the facilities of the Nanaimo and District Equestrian Association who have given us their full support at Beban Park. There have been a few hoops to jump through, and it has taken considerable effort by our Board of Directors all of whom are riders and enthusiasts as well.
Let’s not let some bad publicity about the RCMP, the City of Nanaimo and the Motorcycling Community spoil this First Annual Event for everybody.
I agree with Jeff……a lot of us are “gun shy” about riding our loud bikes in the area lately, including myself. What a perfect opportunity to set up an inspection station knowing that loads of bikes are scheduled to ride a particular route at a specific time. Unless of course, we know that the police will back off just for this event anyway. I believe the turnout will be much greater if we knew this.

The RCMP have said they are going to leave the Toy Run weekend alone. The majority of bikes recently pulled over were stopped by the Parkville RCMP Highway Patrol, who’s territory is from Parksville to Ladysmith. The Nanaimo Detachment has stopped 18 motorcycles and that was during the month of May (motorcycle safety awareness month). As Vice-Pres of the Nanaimo Toy Run Society, I would really like you and all your friends to join us at the Toy Run on July 2 and have a fantastic time here.
I was wondering if this motorcycle function is still on with all the bad publicity on the harrassment on motorcycle riders from the RCMP in Nanamio i have to say as a biker for over 30 years of riding i never heard so much negative input from the riding community on vancouver island on this issue i for one will not be attending in protest of the RCMP picking on the motorcycle community as alot of me fellow riders will not be atending either.
